Before you throw out your older furniture, you might want to consider how you might be able to make it look a lot better so you can still get plenty of use out of it. Just because a piece of furniture looks worn out or is no longer something that fits with the style of the room or the entire home, it does not mean you have to get rid of it. Instead, try one or more of the following suggestions.
Have New Upholstery Added
Over the years, a lot of people may have used the furniture. Between the excessive use, the cleanings, and the general happenings of things being placed or thrown onto your furniture, the upholstery may be less than ideal looking. However, this does not mean that the furniture is done with. You can look for local upholstery services. They should be able to not only add new fabric to the piece, but replace any worn out padding that has seen better days. It will be like a brand new piece of furniture when they are done with it. Just make sure that you are taking it somewhere that offers a wide variety of fabric options so you can be sure to get exactly what you want.
Apply New Stain Or Paint It
The wood of furniture will begin to look a little dull over the years, but this is not a sign that it is past its prime. It simply means that it is time to give it a little care. You can lightly sand off the remaining bits of stain and then either add a new coat of stain or paint. Either way, you are able to give the furniture another look by going with a color or shade that is dramatically different than what was originally on there. Just make sure that you are taking the time to remove all of the hardware that you can and that you are taping off any upholstered areas in order to protect the fabric from becoming damaged. While this is something that you can do on you own, it is also something that you could hire someone to do for you. Ask your local upholstery services company if staining or painting happens to be an additional service that they offer.
With those tips in mind, you should be able to restore just about any older piece of furniture so it can continue to be a part of your decor.Share
